Potsdam (dpa / bb) - In Brandenburg, a commissioner for the fight against hate crime is to be deployed to the public prosecutor's office.

The state parliament decided on Wednesday with the majority of the red-black-green coalition and the parliamentary group of free voters.

The AfD parliamentary group voted against and the left abstained.

The commissioner is to coordinate supra-regional proceedings for hate crime on the Internet and advise the public prosecutor's offices in this area.

In addition, the commissioner should be the contact person for internet operators and police authorities.

Justice Minister Susanne Hoffmann (CDU) said that the basis of the activity will be the law to combat right-wing extremism and hate crime, which is to be passed in the federal government.

This is expected shortly.

The law had already been passed by the Bundestag and Bundesrat, but was stopped for the time being by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier because of the requirements of the Federal Constitutional Court.

Brandenburg's attorney general Andreas Behm had already named a representative in anticipation of the law, who was preparing for her task, said a spokesman for the Ministry of Justice on request.

In an interview with the “Tagesspiegel” and the “Potsdamer Neuesten Nachrichten” on Tuesday, Behm stated that he was expecting 6,000 proceedings a year, which should be distributed among the four public prosecutors in the country.
