Les Sables-d'Olonne / France (dpa) - The decision in the fight for victory in the 9th edition of the solo circumnavigation of the Vendée Globe is expected to be made on the night of January 28th.

The French front runner Charlie Dalin (“Apivia”) is expected at the finish in front of Les Sables-d'Olonne between 6.30pm and 9pm.

Around five hours later, Boris Herrmann (“Seaexplorer - Yacht Club de Monaco”) could successfully end his Vendée Globe premiere.

“The cards have been on the table for a few days.

I don't know if I've ever been this excited.

Like a child at Christmas, »said Boris Herrmann.

The 39-year-old was third in the early morning of January 27, 72 nautical miles behind Charlie Dalin and ten nautical miles behind “Bureau Vallée 2” skipper Louis Burton, but still has an ace up his sleeve with a time credit of six hours.

The restitution had been given to him and two other participants by the race committee as a result of their participation in the rescue mission for the shipwrecked Kevin Escoffier on the night of November 30th to December 1st.

Therefore, the fifth-placed Yannick Bestaven (“Maître Coq IV”) can still intervene in the battle for the Vendée Globe crown with a credit of 10 hours and 15 minutes after the last furious race to catch up.

The third unknown in the arithmetic game about the allocation of places is Escoffier rescuer Jean Le Cam.

The Frenchman was last 432 nautical miles behind Dalin in eighth place.

If he could shorten this distance significantly, he too can still intervene in the battle for the top five.
