Erfurt (dpa / th) - The regional bishop of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany has warned of anti-Semitic conspiracy theories in the corona pandemic.

"Contemporary conspiracy narratives are open to anti-Jewish thought patterns," wrote Friedrich Kramer in a lecture for the Jewish State Community of Thuringia on the International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of National Socialism on Wednesday.

According to Kramer, not every belief in conspiracies is anti-Semitic.

"But every form of anti-Semitism is always accompanied by allegations of conspiracy."

Kramer also referred to the December trial of the man who wanted to cause a massacre in the Halle synagogue, murdered a passer-by and murdered a young man in a kebab shop.

The fact that the assassin was convicted as a murderer filled him with confidence in the legal system, said Kramer.

"But the trial also teaches me fear, as it made us realize what a deadly and poisonous mixture flows in the minds of many people."

One ingredient of this poisonous mixture of thoughts is a hostility towards Jews that has been cultivated for generations.

"The trial raises doubts that there are only a few lunatics who cultivate such thoughts to the point of murderousness."

On January 27, 1945, Soviet troops liberated the German extermination camp Auschwitz.

In Germany, January 27th has been the official day of remembrance for Nazi victims since 1996.
