Dresden (dpa / sn) - The General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) has accused Saxony of cutting the municipalities' money for cycle paths.

The "City & Country" program, which is actually provided by the federal government in addition to existing programs, is apparently being used as an opportunity to apply the red pen to municipal cycle path funding, criticized ADFC Saxony managing director Konrad Krause on Wednesday.

"We are not aware of any federal state that uses the funds from the climate package as an opportunity to shut down its own funding programs."

For the expansion of the municipal cycle path network, funds are to be reduced from 11.7 million euros last year to around 2.4 million euros this year.

These are the state funds.

The Ministry of Transport pointed out that a total of around 15 million euros are available for projects in municipal cycle path construction in Saxony this year - more than last year.

According to the ministry, in 2020 it was 12.5 million euros.

They are therefore well positioned, it said.

By the end of October, the municipalities reported construction projects for cycle paths amounting to just 8.5 million euros.

The available funds have not been exhausted, the ministry said.
