Delmenhorst (dpa) - Two seriously injured people, sacks of potatoes on the street and a closed motorway: On Wednesday afternoon, a 34-year-old wanted to drive off the hard shoulder on the A28 between Hatten and the Oldenburg-Ost junction with his van.

However, a 63-year-old car driver overlooked the slowly moving delivery truck and drove up, as reported by the Ahlhorn motorway police.

The force of the impact spun the rear car.

The rear of the van was badly damaged, so that loaded goods - sacks of potatoes - fell onto the road.

Both drivers were seriously injured and driven to nearby hospitals.

Since the lane was blocked by both vehicles and also heavily polluted, a full closure had to be set up for a good two hours.
