A fifty-year-old was sentenced to six months in prison in Béziers (Hérault) for having fired by mistake on two hunting companions, one of whom had been seriously injured, last October, in Vias, thinking to aim wild boars.

The man was prosecuted for "involuntary injuries with incapacity not exceeding three months during a hunting action by manifestly deliberate violation of an obligation of safety or prudence".

He also had his hunting license revoked, with a ban on passing it for five years.

Still 160 pellets in the body

His 14-year-old son also mistakenly shot the two victims.

He is summoned before the delegate of the prosecutor, Thursday, for a reminder of the law.

Two other hunters had been injured by the defendant in the abdomen, legs and neck.

They were also sentenced to three years of suspension of the hunting license and to a 200 euros fine for unauthorized hunting, hunting during prohibited periods and non-compliance with the requirements relating to the safety of hunters and non-hunters.

While they had all gone duck hunting at a closed time, the members of the group saw wild boars and decided, around 10:30 p.m., to split in two to bypass a pond.

The father and son then shot their hunting companions in the face, believing they were targeting wild boars.

The vital prognosis of one of the two injured had been engaged.

He still has 160 pellets in his body.
