Russian President Vladimir Putin, during an online speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, said that the situation in the world is developing in such a way that there is a real threat of the beginning of the struggle "all against all."

According to the president, the situation with conflicts in the world can develop "unpredictably and uncontrollably."

“If, of course, nothing is done to prevent this from happening.

There is a likelihood of encountering a real breakdown in world development, fraught with a struggle of all against all, with attempts to resolve urgent contradictions through the search for “internal” and “external” enemies, ”Putin said.

Consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic

The Russian leader also noted that there are still risks of contradiction in all spheres in the world.

Putin said that the world is undergoing fundamental transformations in the global economy, politics, social life and technology.

"The coronavirus pandemic ... which has become a serious challenge to all mankind, has only spurred and accelerated structural changes, the preconditions for which were already formed quite a long time ago," Putin stressed.

According to the Russian leader, the pandemic has exacerbated the problems and imbalances that have accumulated in the world.

“There is every reason to believe that there are risks of further growth of contradictions.

Such tendencies can manifest themselves practically in all spheres, ”he added.

At the same time, the head of state drew attention to the fact that recently new strains of COVID-19 have been discovered.

He urged to create conditions for joint work of scientists and specialists from different countries to study them.

“The epidemic will drag on, its uncontrolled foci will remain, it has no borders.

There are no borders for infections and a pandemic, so we need to draw lessons from the current situation, ”Putin urged.

According to him, it is necessary to coordinate the work of the entire world community in order to propose measures to improve the efficiency of the monitoring system for the occurrence of such diseases, as well as to begin work on the distribution of vaccines to countries in need, in particular African ones.

Recall, according to the American Johns Hopkins University, the number of cases of coronavirus in the world has exceeded 100 million.According to the organization, over 2 million people have died from the consequences of COVID-19 worldwide.

Most patients with coronavirus infection were noted in the United States (more than 25.4 million).

India (over 10.6 million) and Brazil (over 8.9 million) follow.

On the eve, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, also speaking at a forum in Davos, announced the worst economic crisis in a century amid the COVID-19 coronavirus infection pandemic.

At the same time, according to him, in 2021 there is an opportunity to “move from fragility to resilience” if the situation with the pandemic improves and efforts are united.

Common values of Russia and Europe

During his speech at the forum, Putin also said that Russia and Europe have common fundamental things, including culture.

“You know, we have things of an absolutely fundamental nature.

This is a common culture, ”Putin said at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

According to him, the largest political figures in Europe of the recent past spoke of the need to develop relations between Western Europe and Russia, "pointing out that Russia is a part of Europe - both geographically and, most importantly, in a cultural sense."

“In fact, this is one civilization,” Putin added.

He expressed the opinion that Russia and Western Europe should be together, and the current situation in their relations is not normal.

“We need to return to a positive agenda.

This is the interests of Russia and, I am sure, of European countries, ”the President noted.

The Russian leader continued that in order to achieve these goals, it is necessary to "get rid of the phobias of the past", as well as to use in the internal political processes those problems that "inherited from the past centuries."

“If we can rise above these problems of the past, get rid of these phobias, then, of course, a positive stage in our relations awaits us,” the President concluded, adding that the Russian side will strive for such a development of events.
