Dresden (dpa / sn) - The police departments in Leipzig and Zwickau are getting new presidents.

As the Interior Ministry announced in Dresden on Tuesday, the previous head of the Zwickau directorate, René Demmler, will move to the head of the Leipzig authority on February 1.

The 49-year-old succeeds Torsten Schultze there.

After two years as head of the authority, Schultze reportedly asked for his delivery for personal reasons.

The 56-year-old is moving to the Ministry of the Interior, where from February he will head the department responsible for organization, planning, controlling and strategy for the police.

From February on, Lutz Rodig will be the police chief for Demmler in Zwickau.

The 57-year-old Ministerialrat previously headed the crime-fighting unit in the Ministry of the Interior.

The cabinet has confirmed the change.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, the Leipzig Police Directorate is the largest police station in Saxony with around 3,000 employees.

In addition to the city of Leipzig, its area includes the districts of Leipzig and northern Saxony with a total of more than one million inhabitants.

The Zwickau Police Department has more than 1200 employees and is responsible for the Zwickau and Vogtland districts.

Around 545,000 people live in the area of ​​responsibility.
