The Government's inquiry has proposed major easing of beach protection.

If it becomes a reality, it can have major consequences.

- The proposals will partly aim to improve conditions for housing and business activities, primarily for small businesses, the hospitality industry and green industries in areas with low exploitation pressure.

At the same time, there must be continued strong beach protection to protect our unbroken shorelines, accessibility in the right of public access and the environment in areas that are already strongly exploited, says Minister of the Environment and Climate Isabella Lövin (MP).

Suggests relief

The inquiry proposes, among other things, that all beach protection be removed from lakes up to one hectare, watercourses up to two meters wide, and that municipalities be given the opportunity to point out so-called rural areas in their master plans where new exemption rules apply. performed.

Development and protection of natural values

- It looks great, but much of the responsibility in the proposal lies in how the municipalities will handle it, and if they handle it with the space they get according to the proposal, it will benefit entrepreneurs in rural areas, says Mats Eriksson, at Lantbrukarnas Riksförbund Västmanland.

- These beach zones are very important for many species and sometimes it can be difficult to see the significance of them, and therefore it is important that at every intrusion you look at them and ask yourself if it is possible to build here or are we threatening any values, says Anders Lerner, vice chairman of the Nature Conservation Association Västmanland.
