The American ultranationalist organization "Proud Boy" is considered a "terrorist entity" by the lower house of the Canadian Parliament.

The latter unanimously approved a motion on Monday asking Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to ban it in the country by blacklisting it.

This organization - founded by a Canadian - has many supporters of Donald Trump.

They notably participated in the assault on the Capitol in Washington (United States) on January 6.

Two days earlier, the leader of this American militia, Enrique Tarrio, had been arrested.

Fight against "white and hate supremacist groups"

The motion - proposed by the New Democratic Party (NDP, left) - notably urges the Prime Minister to "use all means at his disposal to respond to the proliferation of white and hate supremacist groups".

The blacklist is a way of asserting that "Canada will not tolerate acts of violence," said a spokeswoman for Public Safety Minister Bill Blair.

Placing the “Proud Boy” there would also allow “financial institutions to freeze their assets”.

The Canadian government had recently claimed that its security agencies were gathering evidence in order to support its inclusion on the blacklist, where it could join al-Qaeda, Hezbollah, the Taliban or even the Islamic State group.
