Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - With a protective mask and a large distance in the one-way system at the school, by post or at the front door: Around 2.5 million students in North Rhine-Westphalia will receive their half-yearly reports under Corona protection conditions by the weekend.

The individual schools can and must decide how exactly the output takes place in the middle of distance learning.

There will be different ways this week, as teacher unions report in advance.

The handover date is Friday, January 29th.

"The most common way of handing over certificates will certainly be by post, but I also know about individual schools that offer a" delivery service "under Corona conditions," said GEW state chairwoman Maike Finnern of the German press agency.

Teachers would drive to the students and hand over the certificate at the front door with the necessary distance and mask.

But that is only possible if the way is not too far and both teachers, students and parents agree.

Stefan Behlau, Head of the Association of Education and Upbringing (VBE), has similar findings: "The feedback we receive shows the most varied of paths."

While one school relies on mail, the other school has "pick-up times" for the classes, and in small schools the staff is sometimes even on the road as messengers.

Schools could also send copies of certificates electronically with the consent of parents.

The originals would then be handed out in the hopefully coming school attendance time.

School Minister Yvonne Gebauer (FDP) sees the awarding of certificates as an important step.

«The last half of the school year was almost entirely classroom-based.

That's why there are testimonies », she had already explained last week.

In this way, even in times of the pandemic, pupils could be given a bit of normalcy and learning success documented.

The schools decide on their own responsibility on site about the specific design of the certificate handover.

According to a spokesman, the Ministry of Education has no further information on this.

The GEW state chairwoman Finnern also sees face-to-face teaching as the greater factor for the grades than the current distance teaching, which is assessed according to a state regulation.

"However, you have to be very clear that the grades for the half-year have already been determined, of the total teaching time, about two weeks of lessons were at a distance, so the role for the grade will be minor," she clarified.

“Of course, the evaluation parameters in distance teaching are different from those in face-to-face teaching,” says the VBE regional manager.

Nevertheless, learning and performance progress could also be observed and assessed by the teachers in distance teaching.

"In some cases, individual feedback for learning products is even more possible than in joint lessons in the classroom."

Any need for discussion or advice would usually be handled by telephone or video telephony.

The GEW NRW also emphasizes: If there is a need for discussion, the teachers could be contacted, since every school offers solutions.

According to the ministry, January 29th is the date when the half-yearly reports will be handed out.

At the elementary schools, it has therefore been possible to hand out certificates since Monday.
