  • The Roubaix police have discovered an underground gambling hall.

  • She was installed in the well-known café "Chez Salah".

  • Three people were arrested, including the store manager.

Sunday evening, the police in Roubaix, in the North, raided a building that was in their sights to house a clandestine gaming room.

Three people were arrested, we learned from the Departmental Directorate of Public Security (DDSP) in the North.

It was around 11 p.m., when the curfew had entered into force for five hours, that many police forces disembarked in a building located on Boulevard de Tourcoing, in Roubaix.

The place had carved out a good reputation when in 2011, its owner, Salah Oudjan, stood up to developers by refusing to sell them his property.

Become a symbol of the resistance of the earthen pot against the iron pot, the story of Salah had traveled the world.

"Large sums of money were on the table"

The boss has since passed away and the café is closed.

Well, officially at least.

Because when they entered on Sunday, the police found a dozen people at the table playing gambling games.

"Card games and poker chips were scattered on a playing mat," confirms

The manager of the place was arrested and taken into custody for "endangering the lives of others due to the health crisis and organization of illegal games".

Two other players were also arrested for "non-justification of resources".

They could not effectively explain the source of the large sums of money found in their possession.

The other people have been left free.
