The Swiss Michelle Gisin, second overall in the Alpine Skiing World Cup, set the best time in the first round of the giant slalom at Kronplatz (Plan de Corones) on Tuesday.

Gisin, who is having his best season at 27, has a 56 / 100th lead over the American Mikaela Shiffrin (2nd) and 67 / 100th over the Italian Federica Brignone (3rd) before the second round, whose start will be given at 1:30 p.m. local (12:30 p.m. GMT).

The Italian Marta Bassino, big favorite of the day at home after her four successes in the first five giants disputed this winter, only signed the seventh fastest time on the first track, more than a second from the best time (1 sec 09/100).

The French Tessa Worley, who started with the number 1, also remains in the race with the fifth fastest time, at 78 / 100th behind Gisin.

The Slovakian Petra Vlhova, leader of the general classification ahead of Gisin, completed the first heat in a disappointing ninth place, 1 sec 49 / 100th behind Gisin.
