Magdeburg (AP) - The AfD in Saxony-Anhalt wrongly sees itself in the sights of the state protection of the constitution.

"In fact, our actions and our positions offer no basis for such secret service measures," said the head of the AfD in the Magdeburg state parliament, Oliver Kirchner, on Tuesday the German press agency.

Kirchner said that the Office for the Protection of the Constitution is operating without solid arguments, will show at the latest when the party sues the observation.

He did not give details of legal steps.

According to information from the German Press Agency, the AfD in Saxony-Anhalt has been under surveillance by intelligence agencies for a few days.

According to state law, this is only possible if the authority has sufficient evidence that it is an anti-constitutional effort.

First the "Mitteldeutsche Zeitung" reported on the observation of the state AfD.

The parliamentary control committee of the state parliament was informed about this decision on Monday in a secret meeting.

The Ministry of the Interior and the Office for the Protection of the Constitution announced that they would not comment on the reports.
