Hundreds of Holocaust survivors in Israel who survived the Nazi genocide of Jews died from COVID-19 infection, the dpa news agency reported.

The Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) released statistics on Holocaust survivors in its country one day ahead of January 27, the International Holocaust Memorial Day.

According to CBS, about 900 of the Holocaust survivors died from Corona 19 last year.

This is equivalent to 20% of the 4,493 cumulative deaths of Corona 19 in Israel.

The total number of Holocaust survivors who passed away last year, including them, number 17,000.

As of the end of last year, there were 179,000 survivors remaining.

Their age is at least 75 years old, and 17% of them are over 90 years old, making them vulnerable to novel infectious diseases such as Corona 19.

Earlier, Moshe Canto, chairman of the European Jewish Conference, urged EU member states to ensure that Holocaust survivors have quick access to the Corona 19 vaccine.
