Weimar (dpa / th) - The calls to the central medical on-call number have increased massively in Thuringia in the past year - not least because of the corona pandemic.

Every day, an average of 1,000 people voted 116,117, according to the figures from the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KV) Thuringia available from the German Press Agency.

Over the year, calls totaled around 353,500, compared to 223,500 in 2019.

The emergency number for the practice physicians can be reached on the nationwide uniform number outside of office hours, on weekends and public holidays.

The service point for arranging doctor's appointments and a general patient service for those seeking advice on health issues have also been online for a year.

This is one of the reasons for the increased number of calls, said KV spokesman Veit Malolepsy.

In addition, 116 117 can now be reached around the clock every day.

Corona peaks are clearly visible.

In March - when social life was shut down for the first time due to the pandemic - KV Thuringia took over the mediation of corona tests under the central number.

In that month, around 39,000 callers came in, twice as many as in March 2019. In June and July, when the restrictions were relaxed, the fewest calls - around 22,000 each - were registered.

In the second shutdown in December, 53,000 people called (December 2019: just under 31,900).

According to KV, many calls for corona vaccination are currently being sent to the standby number - although in Thuringia, in contrast to other federal states, there are usually no vaccination appointments.

A separate telephone number has been set up for this purpose: 03643-4950490, appointments can also be made online at www.impfen-thueringen.de.
