Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - A wild boar that washed up in Magdeburg was not infected with the African swine fever.

The corresponding test by the veterinary office was negative, said a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Agriculture in Magdeburg on Monday.

The carcass was discovered on Saturday near the cathedral rock on the banks of the Elbe and taken from the river by the fire brigade.

So far, no cases of African swine fever have occurred in Saxony-Anhalt.

The disease, which is harmless to humans, was first detected in Germany in September.

The meat price collapsed as a result.

Important exporting countries such as China had blocked German goods.
