  • Government.Sánchez justifies Illa's departure in the middle of the third wave due to the "exciting challenge" of the Catalan elections

  • Politics Salvador Illa agreed with the PP to appear this Thursday at the Health Commission

Salvador Illa's resignation has failed to avoid controversy.

The PSC candidate will cease to be Minister of Health on Tuesday, right at the top of the pandemic, with an incidence of 884 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, 700 more than a month ago.

From record to record, the statistics of the pandemic have gained weight this Monday by 93,822 new infected, the worst weekend of the entire coronavirus series.

Faced with such figures, the autonomous communities continue to issue their particular SOS so that the Ministry allows them more restrictions and more flexibility when it comes to taking them.

Because if the last two weeks of Illa as minister have been characterized by something - in addition to his leading role in the Catalan pre-campaign - it is by the clamor of the autonomous governments, overtaken by the third wave and without legal tools to combat it with solvency.

Not only those of the PP;

also the regions governed by the PSOE or by the nationalists.

From the Interterritorial Health Council of January 13 - in which Illa said that he had "traveled" before advancing the curfew or confining and that the debate would already be raised "in his case" -, the requests for extraordinary measures they have been

in crescendo

.

So much so that, since then, the 17 communities have already been forced to approve additional restrictions.

But Illa has actively and passively refused to give them more leeway, so regional presidents are also embracing a

sui generis

formula

: asking citizens to "self-confine" voluntarily.

The "self-confinement"

The last to do so was Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who on Monday advocated for a de facto confinement in

Galicia

, given the virulence of the virus and the impossibility of imposing home confinement.

The Xunta has approved the perimeter closure of all Galician town halls, the complete closure of the hospitality industry and new limitations for non-essential commerce.

In addition to asking for "self-confinement", Feijóo has exhorted Galicians to be "implacable" with those who violate the rules.

«Not an iota of condescension with those who think that a small breach does not hurt anyone.

It hurts many ”, emphasized the

popular

baron

.

Murcia

has also started the week by approving additional restrictions: it has advanced the closure of non-essential activities at 6:00 p.m. in eight municipalities and limited the meetings in public spaces, both closed and outdoors, to two people who do not live together.

They thus join the autonomies that have already used the margins of the current alarm decree to the maximum.

For example, this Monday the new restrictions of the

Valencian Community

(without meetings in homes and perimeter confinement of 15 cities on weekends and holidays, in addition to the closing of bars) and those of

Madrid

: advance of the touch of It remains at 10 pm and the hotel industry and non-essential establishments close at 9 pm, as well as the prohibition of meetings of non-cohabitants in homes, with few exceptions.

Perimeter closures

Others such as

Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, the Balearic Islands, Extremadura, the Basque Country, Cantabria, Catalonia, Castilla-La Mancha, the Canary Islands

or

Castilla y León

have already expanded the perimeter closures and / or the curfew, within the margins that Illa allows and that all of them consider improvable.

Navarra

has closed the interior of the hotel establishments and

La Rioja

keeps all its non-essential activity closed until next February 23 and has prohibited the meetings of those who do not live together.

Why has Illa not acceded to the requests made by the autonomies almost unanimously in the last two meetings of the Interterritorial Health Council?

Have you "studied" their proposals, before resigning, as promised?

These are the big questions that are asked in the baronies of the PP and the PSOE.

No response from the Ministry.

It should be remembered that, in October, the minister forced the perimeter closure of Madrid because from 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants "it is essential to urgently adopt shock measures", as stated in that alarm decree.

"And there is no more blind than the one who does not want to see," declared the minister.

But now it does not allow more "shock" actions with an average incidence of 884 in Spain and with 13 autonomies above 500 (six of them, exceeding 1,000).

That is why he has not brought a new decree to Congress
