Munich (dpa / lby) - Due to snowfall, there were numerous traffic jams on motorways and other roads in southern Bavaria on Monday evening.

The state traffic information system Bayerninfo reported dozens of traffic obstructions in the greater Munich area alone.

The southern part of the A8, the A95, the A96 and the Munich A99 motorway ring are particularly affected by the snow and ice.

"The clearance services are in constant use," it said.

On the A8, especially between Rosenheim and Salzburg, there were repeated kilometer-long slow traffic in both directions and shorter traffic jams.

The German Weather Service had announced up to 10 centimeters of fresh snow for the south of the Free State by Tuesday morning, and up to 20 centimeters in higher elevations.

Also in Franconia there should be snowfall early Tuesday.

On Monday there was persistent snowfall in Bavaria.

The police registered numerous accidents, mostly with mild results.
