Dubai Roads launches an electronic "Smart Safety License"

The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai launched electronically certified safety training programs, and the authority launched the first package at the RTA Rail Agency on March 16, 2019 under the name of the Smart Safety License Program (S2L), as part of its keenness to improve health, safety and environment (HSE) performance. And the development of innovative concepts to turn aspirations into reality.

The program’s training curricula, which focus on the most common risks in the workplace, aim to enable the Authority’s employees, and those working in its projects and facilities, to understand standard work practices, learn about the Authority’s expectations, and implement health, safety and environment protocols in all work sites. To raise morale by providing a safe work space, with utmost importance attached to health, safety and environmental sustainability issues.

This innovative program establishes new standards in how to implement health, safety and environmental training that is based on solid knowledge resources in terms of qualification standards, validity and competency levels, as well as fulfilling electronic verification requirements.

The training program targets three levels for employees, the first level for workers, the second for middle management, and the third for senior management. The programs vary according to the responsibilities, positions and job specializations of the participants, so the programs are specially designed to suit each group separately.

Once the participant, who meets the minimum competency requirements set by the authority, attends a three-hour training session and passes the written test, he will be registered in the electronic accreditation system for the smart safety license.

The Director of the Safety and Risk Planning and Regulation Department in the Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector at the Authority, Nada Jassem, said that in the first phase, the program completed training of 3,343 contractor employees of various nationalities, languages ​​and segments of the population, and the program will move to the second phase, which aims to cover the Authority’s employees.

She added that the program will work in harmony with efforts aimed at completing legal and regulatory requirements for health, safety and the environment.
