Frankfurt / Offenbach (dpa / lhe) - The Hessen Economic and Infrastructure Bank (WIBank) has given more than a billion euros in aid since the outbreak of the corona pandemic last March.

With 760 million euros, the majority of this comes from federal funds that went to Hessian hospitals.

They received the compensation payments for special charges due to the pandemic.

Another 10 million came from state funds for the procurement of ventilators in clinics, as the money house announced on Monday.

The development bank of the State of Hesse launched a number of aid programs during the Corona crisis, for example for medium-sized companies, start-ups and the self-employed.

From March to the end of 2020, the institute approved 7,650 credits and loans with a total volume of around 236 million euros, according to WIBank in Offenbach.

Small and medium-sized companies and freelancers in particular have benefited from the recently extended Hessen microliquidity program and liquidity support.

Larger companies were also supported with bank loan guarantees.

Start-ups, sports clubs, festival operators and restaurateurs also got money.

In mid-December, the black-green state government in Wiesbaden announced that the Hessian companies had received a total of around 8.2 billion euros in support since the spring - through grants, loans, credits, guarantees and tax breaks.
