According to a Reuters report, on January 22 local time, a US official said that at least 150 members of the National Guard who provided security services for the president's inauguration had tested positive for the new crown virus.

During the inauguration of the US President, a total of 25,000 National Guard soldiers performed security work in Washington.

According to reports, since the riots in the U.S. Capitol on January 6, the U.S. government has implemented unprecedented security measures in the capital Washington, including fences with barbed wire and checkpoints set up by the National Guard.

25,000 National Guard soldiers were sent to Washington, which is several times the number of American soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan combined.

The official, who asked not to be named, said that the number of National Guard soldiers who tested positive may rise, but compared with the 25,000 soldiers deployed in the city during the inauguration, the infected are still only a small number.

However, the National Guard said in a statement that it will not discuss cases of new coronavirus infection, but that staff are following the guidelines of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The US military said it is making arrangements for the return of thousands of soldiers to their homes. It is expected that 15,000 National Guard soldiers will leave Washington in the next 5 to 10 days.
