SVT Nyheter has investigated the excess mortality in Sweden's nursing homes during the second wave of the corona pandemic, using data from the search service Ratsit.

Excess mortality is a measure of how many more people die than the average during a certain period of time.

SVT has looked at the number of deceased who have been registered in elderly homes during the last ten weeks of 2020 and compared with an average from the corresponding period in the years 2017-2019.

The accommodation Tranan in Storuman has SVT Västerbotten told about in several reports before.

But Nordstjärnan has also had several cases of covid-19.

Those responsible for the accommodation do not want to comment on the figures regarding the excess mortality, nor do they want to confirm that covid-19 was the cause of death.

The person appearing for the interview is Region Västerbotten's director of health and medical care, Brita Winsa.

- The residents in question may have been unlucky that a person came in who was very infected and who was difficult to detect, as you do not always have to have symptoms to spread the infection, says Brita Winsa.
