Gelsenkirchen (AP) - Ex-world champion Thomas Müller has spoken out in favor of Jérôme Boateng staying at FC Bayern Munich.

«He is currently with us.

He still has a contract until the summer.

With a signature on the right paper, that would also be done for the future.

Jérôme has been by my side for a long time and it doesn't do any harm if he takes care of me a little longer, ”said Müller after the 4-0 win at FC Schalke 04 on Sky TV.

Most recently, coach Hansi Flick had already found words of praise for Boateng.

“He's a player who can always do us good,” the coach of the German record champions said on Friday.

Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic, on the other hand, expressed himself rather diplomatically before the Schalke game: "We will talk in due course and make a fair, serious decision."

Boateng's contract expires at the end of the season after ten years in Munich.

CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge had already said that a conversation would be held with the 2014 world champion.
