Launching a project to study the costs of marriage and their impact on family stability in Sharjah

The Department of Statistics and Community Development in Sharjah, in cooperation with the Advisory Council of the Emirate and the University of Sharjah, through the Research Institute for Human and Social Sciences, launched a field study entitled (Attitudes of citizens in the Emirate of Sharjah towards spending on marriage) during which a questionnaire will be distributed to a sample of Sharjah citizens aged 18 years One to 60 years of married and unmarried people.

Where the work team will start collecting data on January 25, 2021, for a period of four weeks.

 The project seeks to provide clear readings about the costs of marriage in the society of the Emirate of Sharjah, and the main reasons that control its costs, in addition to studying its impact on family stability, to work to help the competent authorities take the necessary measures based on an accurate and comprehensive database.

The role of the Department of Statistics and Community Development in the project is to design the questionnaire, collect data and extract the results, while the University of Sharjah, through the Research Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences, studies and analyzes the results according to the best approved scientific methods, while the advisory council will work to raise recommendations and prepare legislations that contribute to achieving goals studying.

The data collection process will take place through the call center in the Department of Statistics and Community Development by contacting the research community according to the database available to the department through an electronic form prepared using the department’s platform, as the data collection process will take four weeks.

Head of the Statistics and Community Development Department, Sheikh Muhammad bin Hamid bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, said: “The importance of this study comes through its contribution to obtaining indicators about the prevailing culture of spending on marriage in a way that helps the competent authorities in designing awareness and educational programs to raise awareness about saving and spread the culture of rationalization of spending. On future marriage, this study will be the basis for future studies in the same field.

Sheikh Muhammad Al Qasimi explained that the department is working to provide modern and accurate statistics through qualified cadres and based on the best standards related to data collection and submission to the concerned government agencies to employ them in community service based on its important role in contributing to setting policies and strategies for community development and determining the quality of services provided.

Sheikh Muhammad Al Qasimi urged the research community in the Emirate of Sharjah to participate in the questionnaire by responding to the letters addressed to them from the department and enabling its cadres to access accurate and comprehensive data that support this study and help achieve its objectives, stressing that the department guarantees the confidentiality of data and information obtained under the law Trigger it.

For his part, the Chairman of the Sharjah Advisory Council, Ali Mayhad Al-Suwaidi, affirmed that this initiative is described by the Consultative Council for a series of initiatives that are looking forward through to touching the views of society and their orientations on one of the topics that represent the present and future in building families by controlling the youth’s orientation in spending on marriage.

He stated that this initiative is integrated within the framework of cooperation with the Department of Statistics and Community Development and the University of Sharjah to find out the attitudes of citizens and their views on the reality of the costs of marriage and their visions, which will constitute important methodologies for rationalizing the agreement in weddings and contributing to building a cohesive Emirati family far from the burden of debt.

He explained that the high cost of marriage is one of the most serious problems that youth suffer from, which leads to reluctance or delay in the age of marriage for both the young man and the young woman. This has led to many phenomena, including the rise in the age of marriage, the emergence of spinsterhood, the high rates of divorce, especially divorce before entry, and the increase in marriage rates from foreigners, whether For young men or women and increase the rates of family problems, so the advisory council will work through the questionnaire to raise community awareness and reduce restrictions and customs of traditions and pride and work to reduce marriage expenses in addition to supporting young people to get married at an appropriate age and increase the effectiveness of institutions in raising awareness to reduce marriage expenses in addition to shedding light on The necessity of organizing, following up and monitoring wedding service providers' markets through the Economic Department, calling on community members to interact with the questionnaire due to the importance of its results and indicators

In turn, the Director of the University of Sharjah, Dr. Hamid Majool Al-Nuaimi, praised the effective partnership with the Department of Statistics and Community Development, which has experiences and qualitative expertise in the field of field surveys in various sectors, indicating that the University of Sharjah provides the latest tools and methods for analyzing data and information collected according to statistical surveys and access to Results that serve the community of the emirate and the Emirati community through its research institutes, colleges, and graduate students.
