For more than 20 countries with particularly high numbers of corona infections, stricter entry rules have been in place in Germany since midnight.

These high-risk areas include the neighboring country of the Czech Republic, the holiday countries Portugal, Spain and Egypt, and the USA.

Anyone wishing to enter from there must be able to show a negative corona test (PCR test) at the border.

According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the tests are systematically checked at the airports and seaports.

At the land borders with other EU countries where there are no border controls, travelers should be checked randomly and independently of suspicion.

This is called a veil manhunt.

According to its own information, the federal police at Frankfurt Airport has tightened controls on flights from high-risk corona areas.

Entry registrations and evidence of a current negative corona test are checked in particular.

The additional measures are intended to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and identify people who need to be quarantined immediately.

"In view of the situation, the Federal Police also recommends that you generally refrain from traveling or only travel for valid reasons."

According to the Federal Police in Frankfurt, the checks take place before the actual border control - and directly on the aircraft.

Today, 17 flights from five countries are expected to be affected.

All measures are therefore carried out in close coordination with the health authorities, the Hesse state police, the airport operator and the airlines concerned.

Germany distinguishes between these three different categories of corona risk areas:

“Normal” risk areas

are countries or regions with an incidence of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days.

This currently applies to almost all of Europe with the exception of individual areas in Greece, Finland, Norway, Austria and Denmark.

Well over 100 countries worldwide are risk areas.

"High incidence areas"

are countries with significantly higher

numbers of

infections than in Germany.

The limit value is an incidence of 200 (Germany currently: 115).

However, under certain conditions, countries can also be declared “high incidence areas” under this brand.

As of Sunday, the following countries will fall into this category in addition to the countries already mentioned: Albania, Andorra, Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Estonia, Iran, Israel and the Palestinian Territories, Colombia, Kosovo, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Mexico, Montenegro, North Macedonia , Panama, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia and the United Arab Emirates.

Highly

contagious variants of the coronavirus have appeared

in

virus variant areas

.

So far the UK, Ireland, South Africa and Brazil fall into this category.
