, according to data from the American University Johns Hopkins.

The total infections were almost 98 million, of which 54 million recovered.

The countries most affected by the new coronavirus in absolute terms are the United States, with over 412,000 deaths and 24.7 million cases, India and Brazil.



In the

United States

so far there have been 24,806,034 coronavirus cases and 413,818 deaths, according to data provided by Johns Hopkins University.

The toll is another 4,151 deaths more than Thursday and 194,111 new infected.

New York State remains the hardest hit by the pandemic with 41,969 deaths, followed by California (36,172), Texas (34,381), Florida (25,011), New Jersey (20,875), Illinois (20,534) and Pennsylvania (20,269).

were ordered to stay home today in the city's first Covid-19 lockdown as authorities attempt to test all residents of a densely populated neighborhood hit by a wave of infections.

The order was issued overnight and covers multiple housing blocks in the Jordan neighborhood of Kowloon.

"Persons subject to mandatory testing are required to remain on their premises until everyone in the area has been tested and the results have been ascertained," the government said in a statement adding that it expects to complete the tests in 48 hours.
