The decision was finalized without appealing that the Korean court ordered the Japanese government to compensate for the comfort women issue from the standpoint that the Japanese government would not be allowed to submit to the Korean jurisdiction.

The plaintiff's lawyer said he was "under consideration" for future actions.

On the issue of comfort women, the Seoul Central District Court in South Korea sentenced the Japanese government on the 8th of this month to order compensation for 12 former comfort women.

The Japanese government did not appeal from the standpoint that it was not allowed to submit to the jurisdiction of South Korea, and the decision was finalized at midnight on the 23rd, and Foreign Minister Motegi said that this decision clearly violates international law. He announced a discourse saying that he was extremely regrettable and could never accept it.

Prior to finalizing the decision, the plaintiff's lawyer told NHK that "whether or not to apply for seizure of the assets of the Japanese government in South Korea has not been long since the decision, and the assets of the Japanese government that can be enforced are decided. "It's not easy to find," he said. "We are considering what to do in the future."

Regarding this ruling, President Moon Jae-in said at a press conference on the 18th of this month, "We will discuss with Japan to find a solution that the victims can agree on," and will search for a solution through diplomacy. He expressed his desire, but did not mention a specific response.
