An important step in containing irregular migratory flows was taken thanks to a telephone conversation that took place during the day between Joe Biden and Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, one of the last heads of state to congratulate the new president of the United States in recent weeks.



A White House note reads that Biden explained to the Mexican president his plan to reduce migration "by addressing its root causes, increasing resettlement capacity and alternative legal pathways to immigration", improving the process for requests. asylum at the border and "reversing the draconian immigration policies of the previous administration".



The two leaders, the note continues, "have agreed to work closely to stem the flow of irregular migrants to Mexico and the United States, as well as to promote the development of the Northern Triangle (Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador) of Central America. And they also recalled the importance of coordination to fight the Covid-19 pandemic ".
