Bettini: "The vote? Misfortune, not coup"

January 23, 2021 The current emergency '' requires high-level solutions and substantial unity of the country.

These are solutions that I have been invoking for months, unfortunately so far unheard.

Under normal circumstances, the most linear way would be to give the floor back to the citizens who would attribute to the center-right the same majority that we have obtained in almost all the partial elections in recent years.

But Italians today do not ask us to think about partisan interest: a ruling class worthy of the name thinks first of the collective interest.

For this reason we had put forward the proposal for a government of national unity, a proposal which was however immediately excluded by the Democratic Party and the Five Stars.

It is clear that this refusal brings recourse to early elections closer ".

Silvio Berlusconi intervenes in this stalemate in Italian politics to offer some of his considerations and reflections on the current moment.

It does so by relying on a note in which it addresses the issue of possible alliances, elections and the hunt for senators willing to change shirts.

"We turned - continues Berlusconi - to the Head of State so that he would find the most appropriate and wisest solution, capable of combining respect for the popular will and the gravity of the moment of emergency we are going through".

"So far the majority parties have dropped this call for shared solutions, preferring short-term parliamentary tactics. Faced with this, we have seen that a two-month paralysis for elections would do less damage than a two-year paralysis of no -government. But it is clear that the country needs harmony and efficiency, not paralysis which, long or short, would not do Italy good at this moment ", concludes Berlusconi.

"I am really worried: it seems to me that political paralysis is dragging on without outlets. Yet every day the abyss between the rites of a turned-in political system and the dramatic health, economic and social crisis that the country is going through is more evident. ".

"I would like the Government and Parliament to work every day on the Recovery Fund, on the vaccination plan, on the refreshments to the categories most affected by the crisis, on the strategies to restart the country when the tragedy of Covid will finally be behind us. I would like to discuss taxation, bureaucracy , justice, infrastructures, work. Instead, the attention of the government and of the parties of the majority is entirely concentrated on hunting down some senators willing to change sides ".

"A hunt which as far as Forza Italia is concerned is destined to remain fruitless, and which - even if it were successful with parliamentarians from other parties - would be a very weak and low-profile response to the most serious emergency in the history of the Republic".
