At around 4 pm, the first lightning strikes in Västernorrland were registered with SMHI.

Then it continued during the evening.

At the same time, the snow is pouring down and SMHI has issued a class 2 warning for snowfall.

Many people have seen and heard the thunder and been surprised.

"Wondering what's going on with the weather"

- A friend of mine said she heard rumbling, but I did not believe her.

Then I saw and heard the thunder from my window, says Johanna Hjortsberg in Sollefteå.

- It feels strange that it thunders in the middle of winter.

I'm also scared of thunder, it always has been.

One wonders where what happens to the weather then, she continues.

"The meteorologist: Understand that people are surprised"

Angelica Lundberg, meteorologist at SMHI:

- It is not very common with thunder in the winter, but it happens that we can get it in the winter.

I understand that people are surprised, she says and continues:

- We have a lot of energy in motion now, it is cold high up and plus degrees on the ground.

The thunder has spread in the northern parts over Ångermanland, around Sundsvall and at Sollefteå.

Even at 9 pm, bangs were heard in Västernorrland.

- The thunder can move further towards Västerbotten, but it is not safe, says Angelica Lundberg.
