Mainz (dpa / lrs) - Due to the reduced supply of the corona vaccine from Biontech and Pfizer, the planned initial vaccinations in the Rhineland-Palatinate vaccination centers will be postponed by three weeks from Wednesday.

They will then take place on February 17 or the following days, as Health Minister Sabine Bätzing-Lichtenthäler (SPD) announced on Friday.

All affected vaccination candidates would be informed by email or post.

She affirmed that all people who had already received a first vaccination also received a second vaccination.

The vaccination campaign is to be continued as planned in the old people's and care facilities.

So far, 115 713 people have been vaccinated in the state (as of Thursday evening).

That corresponds to a vaccination rate of 2.6 percent.

This means that Rhineland-Palatinate is well above the national average and has been in one of the top positions for days, said the Minister.

3228 people have received their second vaccination since Sunday.

In Rhineland-Palatinate, there are four weeks between the first and second vaccination.

The second vaccination is considered important for an effective protective effect of the vaccine.
