January 22, 2021 France will introduce the molecular test requirement for European travelers entering its territory starting Sunday January 24.

The Elysée made it known.

The test, which certifies the coronavirus negativity, will have to be carried out in the 72 hours preceding departure.

"Essential" journeys will be excluded from the provision and frontier workers and land transport will be exempted.

France introduced the same obligation on the 14th last for travelers from non-EU countries.

France, which has 72,000 deaths from the Covid-19 pandemic, yesterday recorded over 20,000 new infections and does not rule out the possibility of a third confinement.

The provision of French President Emmanuel Macron comes to the end of the videoconference summit of the 27 EU member states in which the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, raised the alarm on the "very serious health situation" in the Old Continent.

However, the president ruled out a rigid closure of the European borders, limiting the restrictions to movements deemed non-essential.

In France, another lockdown is not excluded: "If the situation worsens, especially with the spread of the" English variant "," we could be forced to take tougher measures, which can go as far as confinement if the situation requires it "he reiterated the Minister of Health, Olivier Veran, speaking at the "20 heures" program on TF1.

"We are not at this point today", added the minister, hoping that the curfew on the entire national territory from 6 pm will work sufficiently to combat the pandemic.

The French Minister of Health defended the vaccination campaign, which has already benefited the over 75, despite the difficulties that have occurred.

"In 95% of cases - he said - everything went flawlessly" and reiterated the goal of 70 million people vaccinated between now and the end of next August.

Veran also appealed to citizens to respect and reinforce the rules of social distancing and not to use homemade masks.

To the widespread criticism in the country about the management of the health crisis, the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron has already given a piqued reply, stating that "the incessant hunt for error" has made France "a nation of 66 million prosecutors".

In the meantime, the threshold of 20 thousand new positive coronavirus cases in 24 hours was once again exceeded yesterday, while the weekly number of infections should be stable compared to last week, at over 128 thousand.
