"France welcomes the decision of President Biden to offer Russia to extend the treaty on measures to further reduce and limit strategic offensive arms for five years," TASS reports.

It is noted that the extension of the treaty will help preserve "an important pillar of the international system of disarmament and arms control."

Earlier, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said that the extension of the START Treaty would give Moscow and Washington time and opportunities for further negotiations on arms reductions.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that the Russian side welcomes the disposition of the American authorities to extend the START III treaty.
