Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - The fight against the Covid-19 pandemic dominates the plenary session of the Saarland state parliament this Friday (9 a.m.) in Saarbrücken.

Prime Minister Tobias Hans (CDU) will inform in a government statement about the renewed tightening and extension of the measures.

Initially until February 14th, it is mandatory to wear medical masks in public transport and shops.

The schools will also remain closed until then.

The state parliament also wants to pass a so-called "Covid 19 Measures Act" in the second reading.

This creates a new legal basis for restrictions on fundamental rights in the fight against corona.

The state parliament also reacts to a ruling by the Saarland Constitutional Court of August 2020, which called for a “parliamentary legal basis” for corona rules.

The Measures Act regulates, among other things, early information from the government, a general time limit for measures and data protection in contact tracking.

The state parliament is also discussing a law that will respond to the consequences of the pandemic for schools.
