Hamburg (dpa / lno) - The CDU parliamentary group has warned of a delay in police and fire services because of the planned new emergency app.

"It is time that the police and fire brigade in Hamburg can finally be called in an emergency via the emergency app," said the parliamentary group's domestic policy spokesman Dennis Gladiator on Friday.

The emergency call system in Hamburg must be equipped accordingly for this.

"In no case should processing times increase and citizens have to wait longer for help in an emergency," said Gladiator.

The Senate must take into account the warnings of the chairman of the German Police Union, Thomas Jungfer.

Jungfer criticized that the emergency call app would be accessible to everyone.

"This worsens the situation for the police," he told the Hamburger Abendblatt.

More staff is required to process the emergency calls.

If there are any questions, the officers would have to chat with the whistleblower.

Jungfer fears that processing times will be longer, information will be lost and the new offer will be misused.

The nationwide emergency app should enable people with hearing and speech impairments in particular to reach the fire and rescue services (112) or the police (110) more quickly.

According to the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of the Interior, which has taken on project management for all federal states, the introduction is planned for April.

Hamburg has so far contributed 5.4 million euros to the project, as the Senate announced in December in response to a small request from Gladiator.

According to the Senate response, people with hearing impairments can currently call the police and fire services by fax (telephone number 110) and SMS-to-fax.

Alerting is also possible via the Tess Relay sign language interpreting service.
