Munich (dpa / lby) - In parts of the Bavarian Alps, the risk of avalanches is still considerable despite the recently milder temperatures.

According to the avalanche warning service on Friday, avalanche warning level 3 applies to high altitudes in the Allgäu, Werdenfels and Berchtesgaden Alps above 2000 meters. In lower altitudes, the danger is moderate (level 2).

The main problem in the high areas is fresh snowdrift, the experts emphasized.

In some cases, this could be triggered by individual skiers as a slab avalanche.

The risk of avalanches is also increased by the lack of slope safety in ski areas.

Especially in the Allgäu and occasionally in southern Upper Bavaria, hiking trails and forest roads remained closed for the time being due to the danger of avalanches, including in Oberstdorf, Bad Hindelang and Schliersee.

For day trippers it could be uncomfortable on weekends due to the weather in the Alps anyway.

According to the German Weather Service on Friday, temperatures should drop again on Saturday, in the Allgäu Alps up to 20 centimeters of fresh snow are possible.

Stormy gusts could be added on Sunday.

According to the avalanche warning service, at least the risk of avalanches should continue to decline for the time being.
