Berlin (dpa) - After three defeats in a row, basketball Bundesliga team Alba Berlin celebrated another success in the Euroleague.

On Friday evening the Berliners won the Spanish champions Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz with 84:77 (46:50).

Alba had already won the first leg a good two weeks ago 95:91.

It was the eighth success in the 21st premier class game.

The best throwers at the German champions were Peyton Siva with 14 and Maodo Lo and Simone Fontecchio with 13 points each.

Without coach Aito Garcie Reneses, who is still sparing himself after his corona infection, and without the injured captain Niels Giffey, the Berliners started the game well.

With a very careful cover they quickly won the ball and took a 9-2 lead in the initial phase.

But in the middle of the first quarter the hosts found their rhythm.

Alba lost too many balls - eleven in the first half alone.

And Baskonia punished these mistakes coldly.

The leadership changed back and forth in the second quarter.

Shortly before the break, the gap in Berlin grew to eight points (37:45).

But thanks to a good quota of long-range throws, Alba stayed on.

After the break, Alba acted more consistently on the defensive and now the Basques made some mistakes.

The guests took advantage of this and took the lead back (63:54).

And they could hold onto this until the end.

11.3 seconds before the end, Lo set the end point with the last basket.
