Schwerin (dpa / mv) - There are currently Covid 19 cases in less than one percent of the daycare centers in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

The Ministry of Social Affairs announced on Thursday in Schwerin, citing data from the State Office for Health and Social Affairs (Lagus), that eleven of around 1500 daycare centers across the country are affected.

Five children and eight employees are currently affected.

"These numbers make it clear once again that daycare centers play an absolutely subordinate role in the corona pandemic," said Social Minister Stefanie Drese (SPD) in a message.

The minister again pointed out that all daycare workers in the country can still be tested for the corona virus up to five times free of charge.

In view of the high number of corona infections, daycare centers in the districts of Vorpommern-Greifswald and Ludwigslust-Parchim should only open for emergency care from next Monday.

This restriction already exists in the Mecklenburg Lake District.

In the other districts as well as in Schwerin and Rostock, the daycare centers remain open to all children.

But there is an appeal to look after the children at home if possible.
