Emmanuel Macron received the proposals of the report commissioned from the historian Benjamin Stora on colonization and the Algerian war (1954-1962) to try to get the Franco-Algerian relationship out of memory paralysis.

The historian recommends, in particular, to create in France a “Memory and Truth” commission, responsible for proposing “joint initiatives between France and Algeria on memory issues” in order to reconcile the two shores of the Mediterranean.
