Essen (dpa / lnw) - The illegal party at the weekend, in which the police are convinced that football professional Breel Embolo from Borussia Mönchengladbach was involved, could be significantly more expensive for the organizer than previously thought.

If it should turn out that alcoholic beverages had been sold in the corona-related restaurant on the Baldeneysee in Essen, i.e. there was commercial intent, the organizer threatened to be fined 5,000 euros according to the Corona regulation, a city spokeswoman said on Thursday.

The investigation was still ongoing.

So far there has been talk of 500 euros.

Neither the tenant of the establishment nor the owner were to be spoken about.

Embolo denies participating in the party.

According to a report, the police found empty glasses, alcoholic beverages, water pipes, food and a music system in the restaurant early on Sunday morning around 2:30 a.m.

She spoke of an "exuberant party".

The personal details of 23 people were recorded, including Embolo.

The police did not find the footballer in the restaurant, but in an adjoining apartment.

Embolo denies having partied.

He was in the apartment next door to watch basketball on TV.

According to the city spokeswoman, the participants in the illegal party face a fine of up to 250 euros per person.

The Essen police are convinced that Embolo fled out of the window and over a roof into the apartment when the officers approached.

The officers observed a fugitive and only one person, Embolo, was in the apartment.

The club, however, supports its player and his description.

"As long as there is no other investigation result from the police, we believe Breel Embolo," said a club spokesman on Wednesday in response to the police information.

The club had previously stated that Embolo had given a credible assurance that it had not been at the party.
