December 13, 2020The No Tav promised it would be a long day.

And so it was: a Sunday full of tensions and unrest, with Val di Susa for the umpteenth time the scene of clashes between the opponents of the Turin-Lyon and the police forces placed in defense of the Chiomonte construction site, in Val Clarea .

About 250 activists, almost all hooded, attacked the police in an attempt to reach the construction site, where the enlargement works have begun in recent days.

Two were injured: a policeman and a financier, hit by stones thrown by the demonstrators.

The long day began at 11, with an assembly at the sports field of Giaglione where hundreds of people gathered, including the historical leaders, Alberto Perino and Nicoletta Dosio, the 73-year-old passionate who has just finished serving a sentence of a year in the prison of Turin.

The meeting discussed what actions to take immediately to "stop the work" and against "the militarization of the territory", as the mayor of Giaglione, Marco Rey also underlined this week: "A few days from one of the Potentially stranger Christmases since the war, - his complaint - our Municipality finds itself implicitly hostage to the security measures at the Maddalena site ".

At the end of the assembly, the No Tav decided to march towards the construction site.

"The Val di Susa is ours and we will defend it!", The opening banner read.

Among the protesters, in addition to the militants of the Askatasuna social center in Turin, several groups from Milan, the North-East and Bologna, belonging to the antagonist area.

The riots broke out when the procession reached the 'Gallo-Roman' path where the road is interrupted by a gate.

The police forces deployed were targeted by paper bombs and firecrackers.

In response they fired tear gas.

The No Tav split into groups, giving rise to a guerrilla war in the woods around the construction site: 250 hooded, according to investigative sources, following a very specific strategy, attacked from three different points, two from above and one from below, in an attempt before encircling and then passing the police departments to reach the construction site, thanks also to the contribution of those who were in the area of the Mills, fixed garrison No Tav. The riots lasted a long time, with demonstrators scattered in the woods .

Around 5 pm the No Tav returned to Giaglione and calm returned.

Many condemnations of the violence came from politicians.

Among these Stefano Allasia, president of the board of the Piedmont Region.

"The Susa Valley cannot be hostage to a group of extremists who rage with illegal actions and attacks on the police forces. It is not acceptable to read, every time there is a demonstration around the Tav yard, a war bulletin" .

The comment of the M5s regional councilor Francesca Frediani is quite different: "Even if today I was unable to participate alongside the movement, I will never stop supporting the right reasons of the No Tav in all the ways that I am allowed because this territory is been betrayed and abandoned too many times, "said the pentastellata, criticizing the national government.

"The truth is that, while everything is silent in Rome, the Val di Susa continues to undergo an unprecedented militarization in the history of our country, a slap in the face of our Constitution to protect a huge waste of public resources in a moment of serious health emergency" .

In the morning in Turin, some Sì Tav demonstrated in front of the Palazzo della Regione, led by Mino Giachino, former Undersecretary for Transport and founder of the Sì Tav Sì Lavoro movement.

"Saying no to the Tav means no to work and hope for the future. I invite young people who go to protest in front of the construction site to put their energies together with ours to build the future".
