Garmisch-Partenkirchen (dpa / lby) - The variant of the corona virus discovered at the Garmisch-Partenkirchen clinic is not a new mutation.

The interim report on the examination of the samples by the Berlin Charité indicates that it was a variant first identified in March 2020, the clinic announced on Thursday.

So far, no statements can be made about the clinical relevance of the coronavirus variant.

Before the report from Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the virus had only been discovered in 102 patient samples worldwide.

However, according to the sequencing report, there is so far no indication that the mutation that occurred in Garmisch has any effect on the properties of the virus.

Since the beginning of the corona pandemic, changes in the genetic sequences of the virus have been recorded worldwide.

Currently, two variants (B.1.1.7 and B.1.351) that are initially detected in Great Britain and South Africa are considered relevant for Europe, which, according to the current state of knowledge, are noticeably more contagious than the original virus.

Pathogens of variant B.1.1.134 were discovered in Garmisch.
