Berlin (dpa / bb) - Although the number of new vehicle registrations also fell significantly in Brandenburg last year, the decline was weaker in a nationwide comparison.

In 2020, 57,923 new cars came onto the road due to the Corona crisis.

That was almost 11.5 percent less than the year before.

Nationwide there were around 19 percent fewer new registrations in the same period.

While the share of cars with gasoline or diesel engines decreased, electric drives gained significantly.

Almost 3,400 vehicles with all-electric motors were on Brandenburg's roads last year, more than three times as many as in 2019. Their share of new registrations rose from just 1.3 percent to around 5.9 percent last year.

The number of new registrations for hybrid drives also increased significantly from slightly more than 4,000 in 2019 to more than 9,800 in 2020.

Overall, the number of cars in Brandenburg also increased last year.

According to statisticians, around 1.44 million vehicles were registered in the state in 2020.

That was almost 16,000 more cars than in the previous year.
