Washington (AP) - The corporate and real estate empire of the former US President Donald Trump suffered badly in the past year.

The Corona crisis caused the sales of most of his hotels and golf courses to collapse sharply.

That emerges from financial documents released late Wednesday (local time) by the US government's ethics agency in Washington.

According to an evaluation by the "New York Times", the Trump Organization's income was at least $ 278 million, which would be a decrease of almost 38 percent compared to the previous year.

Due to legal regulations, only a limited operation was possible, said Trump's son Eric, who runs the business, the newspaper.

Trump's Doral Golf Club near Miami, for example, suffered a drop in sales of over 40 percent to $ 44.2 million.

The Trump International Hotel near the White House in Washington and Trump's Golf Club in Scotland had to cope with even greater declines.

A positive exception was the Mar-a-Lago Resort in Florida, where revenues rose 13 percent.

The documents also show that Trump, as President, received some donations from CEOs last year.

For example, a Mac Pro computer worth 5,999 dollars as a gift from Apple boss Tim Cook, a leather bomber jacket for 529 dollars from Ford chairman Bill Ford and a 499 dollar golf club from former Boeing boss Dennis Muilenburg.

How Trump's business will go after the presidency remains to be seen.

Due to his inglorious departure, many companies have recently distanced themselves.

To what extent Trump's wealth suffers directly from the business losses of his companies is not entirely clear.

He told the ethics agency assets of at least $ 1.3 billion, which would only be a slight decrease from 2019.

How rich Trump really is remains a mystery anyway - also because he has so far kept his tax documents under lock and key.

The "Forbes" magazine recently valued Trump at around 2.5 billion dollars (2.1 billion euros), and in the past he himself regularly spoke with significantly higher assets.
