The attack on Tayaran Square in central Baghdad occurred on Thursday morning.

A military chief told the Iraqi news agency INA that there were two explosions that occurred near the square reporting Al Jazeera.

Pretended to be ill

According to the Interior Ministry, the first attacker rushed into the market and pretended to be ill, so that people would gather around.

The person then detonated his explosive charge.

As people gathered around the victims, the other attacker detonated his explosive device.

No one has taken on the act

According to sources in the police and health care, at least 28 people have been killed and over 73 people injured.

Several of the victims are so badly injured that there is a risk that the death toll will rise, according to a police source.

So far no one was able to send in the perfect solution, which is not strange.

After years of deadly sectarian violence, suicide bombings have become relatively rare in Baghdad, not least since Iraq declared victory over Sunni extremist IS.

But dormant IS cells have continued to be active in mountainous desert areas, where they attack security forces or government infrastructure.

The most recent suicide attack occurred in June 2019 and claimed several lives.
