On January 21, 2002, Fadime Sahindal was honor murdered by her father in Uppsala.

On Thursday, the traditional wreath laying will take place at Fadime and her little sister Songül's common burial ground in the Old Cemetery.

During the evening, a digital gala will also be held by the national organization GAPF,

Glöm Aldrig Pela & Fadime.

The theme for this year: Honor violence is alive, authorities are failing.

- Our purpose with Fadimedagarna this year is to highlight shortcomings and problems that exist in various authorities such as schools, health care and social services, says Omar Makram, expert at the national organization GAPF.

Large increase in honor-related matters

In the spring of 2020, the municipality of Uppsala signed a new agreement between the social welfare committee, the labor market committee, the education committee, the cultural committee and TRIS.

The municipality has also set up an honorary resource team and has between November and January registered 42 honor-related cases, which is a large increase compared to how it usually is.

- I think the increase is due to the fact that we have increased cooperation and are more visible where children and young people are themselves, says Sofia Venemalm, strategist with responsibility for honor-related violence and oppression and violence in close relationships at Uppsala municipality.

More young boys get in touch

In connection with the pandemic, the support organization TRIS,

girls' rights in society, has

digitized much of its activities and created a new chat system.

- When TRIS changed its business and started chatting, we have seen another younger target group appear.

Who are used to communicating that way.

There we have seen an increase in young boys as well, says Sofia Venemalm.
