Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In the debate about travel options to the vaccination centers and taxi vouchers for older people, Health Minister Karl-Josef Laumann (CDU) relies on communal solutions such as help from families.

The question of how to solve this in the region cannot be answered by the state at a reasonable cost, Laumann said in a multi-hour survey in the state parliament's health committee on Wednesday evening.

He assumes that the selection of the locations in the districts and independent cities was not only made with a view to the property, but also to the question of how people get there.

“This is not just a job for state organizations,” Laumann emphasized, referring to families, among other things. In rural areas there are not that many taxis. He also referred to the costs of fighting the pandemic that will have to be borne by the next generations. For the severely disabled there are solutions from the health insurance companies. With the letters to the over 80-year-olds who live at home, it becomes clear that some of the municipalities are considering instead of how people get to the vaccination centers. That is not the case everywhere.
