Heidelberg (dpa / lsw) - In the case of a possible anti-Semitic attack on a student at the Heidelberg connection Normannia, the end of the investigation, which is actually planned for the end of January, is delayed.

Because of new statements by some defense lawyers for the ten accused, the investigations would end in mid-February at the earliest, a spokesman for the Heidelberg public prosecutor told the German press agency.

Witnesses still have to be heard.

Only then will it be decided whether the suspicion of dangerous bodily harm will be confirmed and charges will be brought against the nine men and one woman.

At the end of August 2020, a then 25-year-old had attended a party with around 30 revelers in the House of Normannia.

He is said to have been mistreated there.

He was belted, pelted with coins and insulted in an anti-Semitic way, according to the Heidelberg public prosecutor.

According to the prosecution, the member of the old Leipzig Landsmannschaft Afrania in Heidelberg had previously reported that he had Jewish ancestors.

He filed a complaint after being mistreated.

In addition to members of Normannia, the ten suspects also include the Ghibellinia fraternities in Prague (Saarbrücken), Germania (Cologne) and Asciburgia (Mainz).

The only female accused comes from the latter connection.

The old gentlemen of Normannia had distanced themselves from anti-Semitism in view of the case.

The student group in which the attack is believed to have taken place has been disbanded.

The event had caused a public shock and a discussion of anti-Semitism and right-wing extremist ideas in fraternities.
