Osnabrück (dpa / lni) - A major operation against a suspected clan network a month ago gave Lower Saxony special investigators indications of further criminal offenses.

The Osnabrück public prosecutor announced on Wednesday that a work of art reported as stolen was discovered above the bed of the main suspect.

It was stolen in 2020 when a home was burgled.

On December 17, the special forces searched 21 residential and commercial properties in Ostercappeln, Peine and Osnabrück.

They found drugs and firearms, and seized cash and jewelry worth around 100,000 euros.

Money laundering is suspected against the custodians, it said.

Corresponding investigative proceedings were also initiated against the custodians of seven luxury vehicles.

According to investigators, a misappropriated car has already been returned to its rightful owner.

Three suspects are still in custody.

A fourth accused surrendered to the investigators after Christmas, and this arrest warrant was suspended against strict conditions.

The public prosecutor's office accuses the suspects of having committed extortionate kidnapping, severe blackmail, robbery, burglary or theft in particularly serious cases.

In Osnabrück there has been one of four Lower Saxony public prosecutor's offices to fight clan crime since October.

According to the authorities, a clan is a group of people who are linked to one another by a common ethnic origin and predominantly by kinship.
